To make sound managerial decisions, increase the specificity and targeting of developed measures of the state support for innovative activity it is necessary to acquire relevant information on the current situation. The article compares the innovation policy at the federal and regional levels with the results of innovative activity in the region and identifies the problems of regional innovative activity. It reveals that the region has potential for innovative activity and requires state systemic support measures. The presented analysis results indicate that the pace of innovative activity development in the region is mostly negative. There are downward trends of enterprises’ innovation activity, which is rather low. Thus, this suggests that the region does not follow the path of innovative development. There is an urgent need for the continuation and strengthening of regional measures to support innovation, enhance their specificity and targeting
