At the present stage, for the development of the country’s regions it is important to produce highly qualified specialists based on a wide network of higher education organizations. One of the urgent problems is the formation of human resources to ensure the solution of this problem. At the same time, the analysis of the gender structure of the teaching staff working in the higher education system is of particular interest. The purpose of the research is to evaluate indicators reflecting the gender structure of the teaching staff of higher educational institutions in Russia’s regions using the normal distribution function. We have characterized the share of women in the total number of teaching staff of all higher education organizations working in the regions for the period from 2017 to 2020. As empirical data, we have used official statistical information for all 82 regions of Russia. The conducted research has confirmed the possibility of evaluating the considered indicators based on the density functions of the normal distribution. The results of the computational experiment allowed concluding about the predominance of women in the teaching staff of higher educational institutions. The share of female teachers in the number of scientific and pedagogical staff in the years under review ranged from 60 to 62%. Only in one region of Russia, the proportion of men in the teaching staff was higher compared to the proportion of women. We have ranked the regions and identified subjects with maximum and minimum values of indicators. The proposed methodological approach and the results obtained have a scientific novelty, since the assessment of the territorial features of the gender structure of the teaching staff of higher educational institutions has not been carried out before
